Ancestral skills Camp in Northeastern WAshington State

We are excited to announce that we will be camping this Fall at the Bridges to the Past Campus in Valley, Washington, about 45 miles north of Spokane.  FallCamp will feature instruction in subjects that are appropriate for the season, and for the coming winter that will include food preservation and ethical harvesting, hide collection, tanning and storage, fire making methods and use, basic outdoor cooking, whole animal processing, working with bones, lithics, fibers, metal, wood and feathers, ancestral tools and weaponry, shelters, and more.

FallCamp is brought to you by Bridges to the Past, 501(c)(3), who also sponsors Between the Rivers Gathering in the Spring, and periodic community workshops.  We also teach at other regional skills gatherings and events.  You may expect the same hospitality and quality you have come to trust.

OuR Campus

FallCamp will be held at our 40 acre campus in Valley, Washington at 3045 Huffman Road.  It has a variety of terrain including treed areas and open meadow, and will allow for a variety of camping opportunities. Tent camping is strongly preferred and  encouraged, but we do have limited space for those who car camp and for RV's (no electricity or hookups).  We are very excited to share this land with you!

Workshop Classes

FallCamp will have a broad range of ancestral skills classes with a focus on things applicable to the fall season, and the coming winter.  Subjects and specific instructors will vary from year to year, but emphasis will be placed on quality instruction from skilled teachers.  A schedule of specific classes and instructors will not be available before Fall Camp begins as this is often fluid and changing right up to the day.

Camp

While this is not a time period event we encourage camping in old styles and ways.  We also encourage you to come prepared to camp away from your vehicle and participate fully in the main camp.
We Are Not
We are not a hippy camp, barter faire, rendezvous, renaissance festival, motorsports rally, bonfire, political platform, clothing optional, or a place to be intoxicated on drugs or alcohol.

We Are
We are a camp of like-minded individuals dedicated to the preservation and sharing of ancestral knowledge in the material arts in a family friendly setting.  We are safe for children.  Please keep this in mind when registering.

OUR GOAL

The mission of Bridges to the Past is to bring people together through ancestral, cultural and environmental experiences.

Teaching for Bridges to the Past:

It is important for our Instructors to know what to expect and to be prepared for a successful event.  It is generally advised that if you have not instructed for us previously, that you attend at least one event as a student participant to get a feel for our events and see if it is a good fit for you.  This will also allow us to get to know you and see if you are a good fit for us.  Comfort and mutual respect is important to us.

Instructor spaces are limited at this event and are pre-arranged because we are trying to provide a wide array of classes while avoiding too much class subject duplication.  We wish to have the basics covered and still have a good variety of subjects & skill levels.  Instructors who have taught a subject in previous years will have preference.  Please do not show up at the gate with no prior communication with us and expect to be an instructor.

Material Skills from around the globe are the emphasis at this event.  We believe that awareness is fantastic, and we desire to take people to the next level of competence and confidence in ancestral skills, survival, wilderness and homestead basics, and the fine-arts of outdoor living.

If you are an interested skills instructor please email Patrick at patrickf@bridgestothepast.org for more info, or call 509-936-1599.  We will email or snail mail an instructor packet to you with detailed information. (email preferred)  We will confirm your acceptance as an instructor prior to the event start date.  You will not be able to show up at the gate and have instructor status without prior contact and approval!
